Dawson Creek RCMP say first-degree murder charges have been laid against three men connected to a murder in the northern B.C. town in 2023.

Charges have been laid against Tanner Allan Murray, 31, Robert James Sinclair, 34, and Benjamin James Elliot Touchette, 36, in the death of Robert Eric Douglas Girbav, according to a police news release Sunday.

The three men were already in custody, in B.C. and Alberta, for unrelated matters.

Girbav was found dead in a red Dodge Calibre in Dawson Creek on Dec. 31, 2023, according to police.

RCMP said investigators believe the men charged and Girbav knew each other.

His death was one of a number of unsolved homicides in the region.

“We acknowledge that the loss of Mr. Girbav was felt widely and contributed to ongoing community concerns regarding crime and violence in the Dawson Creek Area,” said Supt. Sanjaya Wijayakoon with the B.C. RCMP’s major crime unit.

“We want to assure our community that we remain committed and dedicated to advancing our investigations into incidents that are impacting the Peace Region.”
