Officials in B.C. are providing an update soon on flood warnings
I’m a senior writer on the national desk based in Vancouver. A flood warning is in place today for the Sumas River, the Lower Fraser and Skagit basin areas of B.C. as severe rain continues to fall across the region.
The B.C. River Forecast Centre said the Nooksack River in Washington state could potentially overflow because of the weather, the same spillover that created issues during the widespread floods in 2021.
The warning said the current forecast doesn’t call for levels as high as that year, but similar levels are being considered as a “possible scenario” if rainfall amounts end up on the higher end.
Provincial officials are providing an update at 2 p.m. PT. B.C. Minister of Emergency Management Kelly Greene will will speak, along with experts from the River Forecast Centre.
