Indian Relay Championship of Champions To Make Cheyenne Debut
This weekend, riders representing seven Horse Nations across the United States and Canada will gather in Cheyenne, Wyo., for the 10th Annual Indian Relay Championship of Champions.
From Sept. 25-27, teams will compete across men’s, women’s, junior, youth, and kids divisions, leading to Championship Sunday, when the 2026 champions will be decided.
This year marks the first time the Championship of Champions will be held in Cheyenne, bringing the season-ending Indian Relay Championship to one of the West’s most recognized arenas.
“Ten years of champions have brought us to this moment,” the Horse Nations Indian Relay Council wrote in a press release. “Cheyenne gives us an incredible stage to celebrate the teams, the horses, the families and the traditions that make Indian Relay what it is.”
Gates open at noon each day, giving fans time to visit food and merchandise vendors and take part in Championship activities before racing begins.
Fans will also have opportunities throughout the weekend to meet Indian Relay champions during autograph sessions, including Champions from over 23 HNIRC Tour of Champions races across the United States and Canada, including such races as Calgary Stampede, Cheyenne Frontier Days, and Pendleton Roundup.
Opening ceremonies begin at 2:00 p.m., featuring Color Guard, dancers and drums before Indian Relay racing takes the track.
Sunday is Championship Sunday, featuring the Men’s and Women’s Championship Calcutta followed by the final Championship races.
Since the inaugural Championship of Champions in Billings, Montana, in 2017, the event has grown into the season finale for Indian Relay teams competing throughout the United States and Canada.
