StrongHearts Native Helpline is celebrating nine years of addressing domestic and sexual violence in Native communities.
Since its launch, the organization has received more than 85,000 contacts through calls, chats and text messages. At the request of survivors, StrongHearts has also provided more than 26,000 referrals to direct service providers. The helpline has also built partnerships with tribal, state and national organizations to strengthen responses to violence affecting Native individuals, families and communities.
Last year, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), through the Administration for Children and Families (ACF), announced a projected $15 million, five-year grant to support StrongHearts Native Helpline as the first standalone national Indigenous domestic violence hotline serving American Indians and Alaska Natives. The funding will allow StrongHearts to continue operating as a trusted, anonymous and confidential resource for survivors seeking crisis support.
“This anniversary is not just a reflection of where we’ve been—it’s a testament to our team and to our commitment to ensure that the thousands of survivors who have reached out receive culturally honoring support,” said Lori Jump, chief executive officer of StrongHearts Native Helpline. “We are honored to have served our communities for nine years and look forward to expanding our impact.”
In the coming year, StrongHearts plans to expand its work in several key areas, including finalizing its Alaska-Specific Initiative, which focuses on strengthening outreach and access to services for Alaska Native communities. The organization also plans to deepen partnerships with tribes, states and local service providers to ensure continuity of care for survivors.
StrongHearts is also working to enhance its website to improve user experience, including expanded search tools and a dedicated resource center featuring information, reports and articles.
