ADA, Okla. — The Chickasaw Nation Department of Culture and Humanities has launched the Aachompa’ (A Place to Buy Things) website, providing a one-stop shop for customers searching for authentic Chickasaw art, jewelry, books, merchandise and more.
The new e-commerce platform, located at Aachompa.com, features links to the Aachompa’ store and the Chickasaw Press.
By clicking on the Aachompa’ link, users can choose between categories of art, clothing, jewelry, books or gifts. The website features works by Chickasaw and other First American artists and artisans, including prints by Brent Greenwood, flutes by Michael Cornelius and jewelry by Linda Cooper, among others.
In addition to original works of art, users can find many clothing options, including handmade ribbon skirts, graphic T-shirts and official Chickasaw Nation merchandise.
The gift section includes plush animals, stickers, tumblers, totes and much more.
The website includes an option to filter categories, making it easier for users to find what they need.
“Aachompa’ is more than an online store,” Lisa John, Chickasaw Nation Secretary of Culture and Humanities, said. “It is a place to share who we are as Chickasaw people and to provide access to the art, traditions and stories that make our culture unique.”
Aachompa’ also provides easy access to the newly designed Chickasaw Press website, where users can search for books by genre, price or release date. Categories include children’s books, coffee table books, cookbooks, fiction and nonfiction books and Chickasaw language publications.
Links in the “Educational Resources” section of the website direct users to Chickasaw apps and Rosetta Stone Chickasaw.
Aachompa’ provides a way for customers to shop online from six different retail locations throughout the Chickasaw Nation, including the Chokma’si Gallery and Chickasaw Press Bookstore, both in Ada; the Aachompa’ Gift Shop located at the Chickasaw Cultural Center in Sulphur; the Chickasaw Council House Museum in Tishomingo; Fort Washita in Durant; and the Chickasaw White House in Emet.
Aachompa’ connects Chickasaw and other First American artists and authors with audiences around the world, allowing users to find merchandise and unique handmade art, jewelry, clothing and more, no matter where they live.
