WASHINGTON — Tribal gaming continued its record-breaking growth in fiscal year 2025, generating $46.2 billion in gross gaming revenue, a 5.3% increase over the previous year, according to figures released Tuesday by the National Indian Gaming Commission.
The increase of $2.3 billion over fiscal year 2024 underscores the continued strength of Indian gaming as an economic engine for tribal nations across the United States. The revenue totals are based on independently audited financial statements submitted by 545 gaming operations owned by 246 federally recognized tribes in 29 states.
Seven of the NIGC’s eight regions reported year-over-year revenue growth.
“Indian gaming is an important contributor to tribal economies that empowers sovereign tribal governments to invest in their communities and provide their citizens with essential services,” NIGC Vice Chair Billy Kirkland said.
NIGC Associate Commissioner Sharon Avery praised the industry’s continued success.
“I would like to wish the Indian gaming community a job well done on another strong year,” Avery said. “These GGR results reflect the continued commitment of tribal regulators and operators to responsible growth and community benefit.”
Gross gaming revenue (GGR)—the amount wagered by players minus winnings paid out—is the standard measure used by the NIGC to track the performance of the Indian gaming industry. The agency compiles the data annually to monitor industry trends and support oversight under the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act.
For many tribal nations, gaming revenues extend far beyond casino operations. Income generated through tribal gaming helps fund essential government services, including healthcare, education, housing, public safety, infrastructure, elder services, and cultural preservation. Revenues also support job creation and economic development both on and off tribal lands, making Indian gaming one of the most significant drivers of economic opportunity in Indian Country.
The latest figures continue a long trend of sustained growth for the tribal gaming industry, reinforcing its role as one of the strongest examples of tribal self-determination and economic sovereignty in the United States.
